Obama Delivers At Town Hall

By Cody Nagel

With so many rumors floating around the nation about the looming House and Senate Health Care Reform bills many that support the plans were beginning to grow tired of what seemed like a lackadaisical response from some on the left. With the bill under complete control of the Democrats, many (myself included) saw it as just another instance in a long history of the Dem's tendency to self implode. However today led by President Obama it seems as if the Democrat's are finally ready to play hardball.

Earlier in the day I had written a piece about what I though the President needed to get across to the American people at today's event. The piece talked about the need mostly to address the outlandish rumors that have been being circulated by the far right. Today Obama did just that. He took the challenge head on and dispelled rumors of; rationing of care, euthanasia, and death panel's.

The most important part of the event today had to be when the President was asked a question about the differences between Universal Health Care and the Co-op system in the works in the House and Senate. Obama addressed the question head on and clearly labeled the differences between the two systems.

President Obama was able to paint the clearest version we have heard yet of what is trying to be accomplished with Health Care overhaul. Sure he may have left out information on the exact cost of the program, but he did a great job of opening up a dialogue that seemed to be contagious in the hours after the event. As other town halls took place the Democrat's seemed to finally have a unified message that closley ressembled that of the Presidents.

Whether or not this is the beginning of honest open debate is up in the air but today the President did as could as he possibly could to calm fears by dispelling myths and calling for open debate. Let's all hope this is the start of that trend.
