Obama Set To Fight Back

Today President Obama will take center stage at his latest Health Care Reform town hall. People on both sides of the political spectrum are eagerly awaiting to hear what the President has to say. For many today's event is seen as a chance for Obama to redeem himself for his horrendous Presidential Press Conference a few weeks back. At that conference Obama was widely mocked by both sides for failing to deliver a strong cohesive message.

So what can the President do today? First off he will need address many of lies and half truths that are circulating around the country. Obama is often considered by many on the right to have an elitist attitude and honestly this has at times been a fair criticism. Today Obama must start out by explaining the real policy behind some of the most outlandish rumors we have seen since the last election cycle. The President must be firm while at the same time he must be careful not to come off aloof to the rumors. This is where the President must understand that all fear originates from somewhere. The best thing he can do today is to sympathize with those fears and explain them away.

President Obama must also explain what the plan is and how much it will cost. This day in age it is far to easy to circulate rumors that play off of peoples fears of the unknown. It should have come as no surprise to anyone to see the current level of rumors plaguing the debate. Most of these rumors are allowed to flourish though given the simple fact that no one has yet to really explain in detail just what the basic essence and cost of this overhaul will be.

If the President really wants this reform to succeed he must address both side of the argument. It is not enough to just pander to the left. He must engage the right and take the argument back to their leaders door steps. Whether or not the President wants this fight will largely determine the outcome. For the President todays town hall should be about one thing. Selling the message by easing fears with the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
