Never in my life time or many of ours for that matter have we seen such a complex web of politically divisive issues all on the table at once. It all started last summer with rising gas prices and Big Business bailouts. Americans became angry rightfully so.
As the election heated up this past fall so did the debate as to what direction the country should be taken in. Then candidate Obama, ran on a platform of change that resonated with much of the country. Obama won the election in what is no doubt one of the greatest cultural moments in our country's history. However the honeymoon didn't last long.
Which brings us to the current debate that has taken the country by storm. The debate over how to fix our countries health care system has become as a divisive issue as any over these past few weeks. By now we have all seen the footage of the rowdy and chaotic crowds showing up to town halls over the past week. Without a doubt there is a huge growing divide over the issue.
No matter what you think of the protesters and what side of the argument you fall on. No one can deny that things are getting extremely heated. But are things getting so heated that we are on the cusp of seeing violence and bloodshed at one of these events? Signs seem to point to yes.
There is a growing notion from some on in this country that we are on the edge of a second American Revolution. One look at forum posts around the Internet shows just how disenfranchised certain people have become. There is a lot of talk and buzz about the current Administration being guilty of tyranny and treason. Talk of taking the country back by force is becoming all to common as well on these threads. And it doesn't help matters at all that the biggest voice of the Republican party Rush Limbaugh, has gone as far as to say the Dem's and their health care plan resemble the Nazi party.
So it really is no wonder that people are growing scared. Radio personalities like Limbaugh and Glen Beck have pumped their listeners minds full of so many half truths and outright lies about rationing of health care, euthanasia and a complete socialistic government take over of the health care system that some listeners that take these entertainers at face value feel on every word they say, really do feel as if they are losing they're country. They are outright scared of Obama and the Dem's.
The problem with these radio personalities is they don't seem to realize (or maybe they do) that they are inviting some extreme unstable listener to instigate acts of violence just like we recently saw with the latest abortion doctor killing. Except in this case it really will only take one extreme listener to commit a horrible act of violence and incite what I fear will be the biggest national eruption in violence that this country has ever seen.
There are many fire's burning in the country at the moment and it seems that it would not be wise to stoke this particular fire much more. If we do we just might not be able to put this one out.
