Sony Poised To Dominate Holiday Sales

With the holiday shopping season just a few months away you can bet that the big wigs over at the big three are gearing up for what should be one of the most hotly contested seasons in recent memory. However it seems as if Sony is gearing up for domination of the holiday season. What is up their sleeves that makes me so sure?

For starters by now everyone should be fairly confident in the existence of the PS3 Slim. All signs are pointing to it being announced very soon. If is history is a good indicator then it tells us that whenever Sony issues a redesign of a console it is hit. I see PS3 Slim being no different. If you couple that with the rumors of a $100 dollar price cut the PS3 Slim should start to fly off of shelves the day it is released.

The price cut is very much still up for debate but most people in the industry will say that it is much need and that they expect one soon. If it does happen by the holidays you can rest assured that the PS3 will be one of the must have gifts of the season. If you don't believe me all you have to do is think back to the excitement that surrounded the announcement of the PS3. Xbox 360 had just been unveiled to raving journalist and gamers everywhere and then a few days later Sony blew Microsoft's announcement out of the water when it debuted the PS3. Suddenly in the matter of a two hour press conference the momentum had shifted from Microsoft back to Sony.

Then came the announcement of a $600 price tag for the system a year later and at that very moment Sony lost all momentum. The problem for Sony has never really been the system but rather the price. For most people that is just simply to high of a price tag to warrant a purchase.
Since that time Microsoft and Nintendo have been the greatest benefactors of Sony's biggest mis-step ever. Last year Microsoft raised the bar on what was at first thought to be Sony's season when they announced that the 360 would get yet another price cut. The 360 once again took all of Sony's momentum and ran off into the holiday sunset toppling Sony once again.

So what makes this year any different you may ask? For starters neither Nintendo or Microsoft are willing to drop the price of their consoles anymore. Secondly, Neither company has as many must have holiday titles coming this year as Sony does. However the biggest reason that I am predicting a huge season for Sony is based on a PS3 price cut. A PS3 at $299 is suddenly a great value and consumers will take note. Also just think of all those kids out there that have wanted one but just could not convince their parents to spend $400-500 dollars for the system. A starting price point of $299 dollars is just what Sony needs in these tough economic times and lets all face it, with everything the PS3 brings to the table the price is just right. Expect to seen PS3 sales skyrocket come this holiday season.

  1. Dear News Asylum,
I seriously hope that English is not your first language, it would explain what I just suffered through. The only other exception I would be willing to accept is that your very young. It has nothing to do with your subject matter but the way this is written and structured. I'll admit that your title caught my attention, when people make bold assertions I'm always curious to hear how they arrived at their conclusions. But with each sentence read I found myself more distracted than curious. May I offer you some advice for future offerings? 1. Own your work, even if it's just a pen name. 2. Text speak does not pass as journalism (if that's what your aspiring to). 3. Throw in some corroborating facts, these can be spun or cherry picked, but it always gives weight to your statements. Nobody says a good story has to necessarily be true, just look at politicians and lawyers. And finally proof read your stuff at least twice before clicking submit, at that point it's to late to take it back. I hope you accept this as constructive criticism and not just someone trying to be an ass, I truly mean that.
